One of the best fruit trees for an Indian terrace: hardy, fast to bear and very responsive to pruning, since it fruits on new growth and can be kept small. For a Lucknow pot, choose a semi-dwarf, early-bearing type such as Taiwan Pink or the locally bred Lalit; vigorous classics like Allahabad Safeda need a big bag and hard pruning to stay container-sized.
